The pattern may be asking for understanding before it can be asked to change.
This page may be a useful place to begin if...
- A private pattern has become harder to carry alone.
- Secrecy is shaping how you feel in your relationship.
- You are tired of promises that do not reach the pattern beneath them.
- You want more agency without reducing yourself to a label.
You may not need another lecture, a harsher rule, or a label that makes you smaller. You may need a place to understand what the pattern is doing for you, what it costs, and what becomes possible when you no longer have to face it alone.
The question is not only, “How do I stop?”
That question can be important. It is rarely the whole question. Therapy can also ask what happens before you turn toward the screen, what feeling the pattern helps you avoid, and what story about yourself arrives afterward.
How this work can help
Life Telling Processing begins by taking your experience seriously. Together, we can look at the present pattern alongside the pressures, losses, relationships, formative messages, and protective strategies that may have shaped it. This may include noticing triggers and routines, understanding shame, practicing ways to remain present with difficult states, and identifying practical boundaries that support the life you want.
Do I need to call myself an addict to begin therapy?
No. You do not need to arrive with a label. We can begin with what feels difficult to change, what it costs, and what you hope might be different. Therapy is a place to clarify the pattern, not to force an identity onto you.
What if my concern is mainly about values or faith?
Values, faith, and relationship commitments can matter deeply. Therapy can take them seriously without assuming that moral distress by itself explains the whole experience or determines a diagnosis.
When urgent support is needed
This page offers information about therapy, not a diagnosis. Concerns involving coercion, nonconsensual behavior, severe substance use, a manic state, or a need for a higher level of care require specialized or urgent support rather than a depth-therapy consultation alone. This site is not monitored for crisis situations. If you are in acute distress, experiencing a mental health emergency, or having thoughts of harming yourself or others, do not wait for a response from this site. In the United States, call or text 988, text HOME to 741741, call 911 for immediate danger, or go to the nearest emergency department.
